What Retailer Carries Sanyo Eneloop

A time for hope

by Ardeth Greene Kapp

wish I could sit with you in my swing back porch of my house to watch a sunset. It's so fun to listen to the crickets sing. Those who know how to listen can distinguish between loving call, a warning signal and messages that simply say "Here I am." Did you know that the crickets actually listen with ears that are on their knees? When I kneel I also try to listen so you can better understand the needs, desires and aspirations of young women in the Church. I do this every time I read your letters and I have the opportunity to hear them express their thoughts and feelings. Imagine
are sitting with me in my porch swing and that together we will hear messages from some of the letters I have received recently:
"Dear Sister Kapp: This year I had great difficulty with my self-esteem and with a friend (also a member of the Church) who has given me back and gone with other friends. Sometimes I feel terribly alone. I know that Heavenly Father knows my problems, but also I know I need them to progress, even if sometimes it is hard to remember. "
listen to another young man who shares the feelings of his heart:
" They always say that something must happen in our lives that do we have the desire change. Well, something happened. I have still a long way to go but I finally understood that my Heavenly Father is with me even if I have cheated in some way. I'm making a big effort to tidy up my life and do what is right. I am determined to do no matter what time I take although it is very difficult. How I wish I could just get closer to my Heavenly Father and Mother and give them a strong I could hug and tell them to return victorious. "
listen now a part of a letter received by a mother as anxious as grateful. Her daughter, seventeen, who could be judged as rebellious by some who have not learned to recognize his call help, write:
"Dear Mom and Dad: I know that I was not very good daughter. I hope things can be arranged between us. Please do not lose hope in me. Do not think that they do not say that I love really means that. Please understand what I'm trying to say. We will stay united and we love each other through the hardest and worst moments. And we will because we are a family. "
hear
these messages from our beautiful young women and do it with my ears and my heart. I want to reach each and share with them what I've learned over the years about hope. If I could, I would also hope to provide you, but I learned that only comes to us to move forward. This short time away from our heavenly home and our parents, we have been given to our agency for the purpose of being tried in all ways (see 2 Nephi 2:24-28). We can safely assume that we have difficult days with some hard evidence. But if we learn from them and grow as a result of them, we will be better and stronger individual. When I am faced with things that are difficult and I can not understand, I review in my mind the words of a song I learned years ago when I was not sure that my prayers were heard and hope needed to keep going:

fire Maybe God
try to make you and shine.
cesarno But His love can
For Him you are special.
God walks by your side;
triumph of His hand.

My sister Sharon had an album that played over and over time until you have memorized the words and sings to me sometimes. Tells the story of a girl in a small mining town in Leadville, Colorado. Some people who lived in a forest had been found. They knew who he was or where he came from, but collected and reared. She had drive and hope which led, eventually, that little place some of the most prestigious in Europe.
As the musical version of Molly Brown's story unfolds, we see first as a peasant girl with few opportunities, no education and without refinement. Then we found struggling on the ground with his adoptive brothers who the flip. One of his brothers said: "Molly beat you, beat you!" And young Molly responds: "I'm not losing, I'm not losing, but even if it were never hear me say it. I hate the word up, but I love the word fight, because it means hope and that is exactly what I have.'s Hope something more beautiful, cleaner somewhere, and if I eat fish heads all my life do not you think that I could eat on a plate but only once and wearing a red silk dress? " And then begins belting out "And then I will read and write. I'll see all there is to do. And if they go all the way to something and meet someone, that someone I have to be" . Does that sound that you like to have hope?
Hope and Molly determination led to great triumphs. Then one day he came aboard the tragic Titanic, which sank to the ocean floor more than a thousand passengers. But Molly Brown did not sink, climbed into a lifeboat with others and began to row. The night was cold and dark and the survivors were prisoners of fear of being buried in the water. Some cried out in anguish: "Do not make it!" But Molly Brown refused to give up. She continued rowing. The owners of the New York Times called it "The invincible Molly Brown." It was full of hope, and hope unwavering also inspired others to take it.
Before I began to think about the path to "something" which Molly sang and how we could find. As a youth I remember standing at the kitchen window and continue with the sight of the stone path running east to reach where to look. On each side of the road was overgrown grass in the summer and deep snow in the winter and had only a few scattered houses. I thought: what will be out there for me? Where do I belong? I'm sure you will be asked the same questions. There were times when things do not look very promising. The school I had been very difficult. My friends were leaving and I felt stupid. Do you have any idea how that makes him a person? It's horrible.
When I was twelve years old and feeling very discouraged after a long and difficult winter, my parents had a plan that represented a lot of sacrifices but they hoped would give me hope. Decided to take me beyond the stone path, crossing the Canadian border, crossing the great states of Montana and Idaho to reach Salt Lake City, Utah, to attend a general conference of the Church.
arrived early the first day of the conference and wait in line hoping to get in the Tabernacle on Temple Square, which knew only from photographs. Finally, sections found seats in the balcony where I could actually see the Prophet and to hear him speak live, which I had never thought could happen. The feeling I had at that time was one of hope and understand the meaning of true "path to something." Determined there that day to plant my feet on that path, the straight and narrow path that leads to the celestial kingdom and never give up. I have come to know without any doubt that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the way of hope that leads us back to our Heavenly Father and our eternal home.
Hear the Lord's promise us. He says: "Be faithful and diligent in keeping the commandments of God, and I encircle the arms of my love" (D & C 6:20), and comforts us by saying: "Come unto me all ye that labor and laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest for your souls "(Matthew 11:28-29).
However, if we were together on the porch of the back of my house, I stop and ask, "Do you understand the plan of our Heavenly Father and the part that you have in it?" I make this plea to young women: Find your own porch away from the loud voices of the world. Learn to listen, not crickets, but the constant whispers of the Spirit with His message of hope that will help them every step of the way back to the heavenly kingdom.
Can you imagine what would happen if each student send a message of hope to the world that would inspire others to never give up? That is exactly what has happened. Each of the 300,000 young women of the Church were recently invited to participate in a grand global celebration, they were invited to prepare short messages of love and hope to the world and put them inside a helium balloon that would release the dawn of a memorable day autumn.
Angela Santana
sent his message of love from Brazil: "We feel peace when we live in righteousness. It's having the Spirit with us, giving us assurance of our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. Is ready for the day when we can live eternally in the heavenly realms with Heavenly Father. " On the envelope he wrote: "If a man has hope, will never feel unhappy." Shauna
Bocutt of fifteen years, sent from Kinshasa, Zaire, his message of hope and included this special testimony: "I know that Heavenly Father loves me because I asked."
In the Philippines, Dhezie Jimeno wrote: "I would like to share with you a message I hope to keep to the delight of his heart. The message is that God cares and loves them very much. Yes, in life we \u200b\u200bexperience pain and sorrow, sadness and tribulations, but all these things are to experience us, and we can make work together for our benefit. The difficulties are only sent from the Lord, if the experience is evidence of His trust in us. Therefore, we should be happy, be happy, because it is a way of being wise. We just have to call in fervent prayer. I know that God never fails us, He is there, is listening and is deeply interested in us. We have in him a friend. "
With the Gospel in our lives and with our feet firmly planted on the road that leads to the celestial kingdom, we can move forward and upward. There will be some steep hills to climb but our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has made agreements with us and has promised to scale to our side every step of the road. His hope, coupled with the hope of thousands of others, can bring light and hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a troubled world. Make agreement on the same day (if not already done so) to plant your feet firmly on the path that leads to the celestial kingdom and never give up. This time, everyone else is a time for hope.

Does Herpes Grow On The Pubic Area

"PREPARING THE HEART AND MIND FOR THE PRAYER" by Gene R. Cook

One morning, when we lived in Quito, Ecuador, I called my wife to tell an important visitor would arrive at the airport in an hour and I like to take home for lunch. With marked enthusiasm, she said she would do everything possible to keep the house clean and prepare a good meal.

In those days we lived with a woman named Roza, who helped my wife cooking and other chores. Roza was about thirty years old and was very faithful to their own religion. Often we tried to talk about the Church and the Gospel, but she would not listen. In fact, when we tried to do, usually treated us very coldly.

This particular morning, while my wife and Roza ran around the kitchen trying to prepare lunch, discovered that she had lost the mixer needed to make a cake. That was a moment of great frustration. At the time Ecuador was not possible to prepare a cake using packaged ingredients, had to do with each of the ingredients. And now they had the necessary for this device.

At that time, our seven-year-old walked into the kitchen and heard what was happening. He listened for a few minutes and then innocently told Roza: "So I lost the blender, eh?" It made a little more angry, and he added: "Well, if you really want to find, why not ask the Lord to help? He knows where he is."

She replied rather impatiently: "You do not have to pray for things like that! Remove yourself from the kitchen so you can find it!"

He ran off, but after a few minutes Roza felt bad for having insulted a young child and went to look. He found him kneeling on his bedroom saying a prayer: "Heavenly Father, we have a serious problem in the kitchen. Santa will bring to an important person for lunch. Mom is angry. Roza has lost the mixer and does not believe that you know where is. If you just show us where is the mixer, we can solve the whole problem. "

Within minutes, they found the blender. Someone might say that everything was a coincidence, but I think it was through faith that a small child was in the Lord Jesus Christ. Roza was amazed to see that the Lord answered the prayer of a little boy, and especially about something as insignificant as a mixer. That experience gave him some very strong spiritual impressions about the value of prayer.

The sweetest part of this experience was that two or three weeks later I had the privilege of baptizing Roza in the Church. I carried out that order, but it was a boy of seven years as an instrument of the Lord, turned to the truth. It was he who taught him that no matter what the problem is, if we are really worried about it, so is the Lord. He will help us in any circumstance that is of real concern to us.

is true that God answers the prayers of children, even about small things. It is also true that He answers prayers adult and are interested in helping in any aspect of our lives. But our ability to receive answers to our prayers will increase if we prepare our hearts and our minds to communicate with our Heavenly Father and if, at the same time, we prepare to receive the responses.

Here are some important ways we can prepare our hearts and our minds to prayer.

HAVE FAITH IN CHRIST

The most important thing we can do to communicate with our Heavenly Father is to have faith in Jesus Christ. If we have faith in Christ, we have faith in our Heavenly Father, because Christ has given a clear testimony about Him

Some people consider faith as positive. That's just part of what faith really is. Faith is the power that holds the worlds in place. Faith is the power by which God works. When we have faith, we have access to His divine power.

But we must remember that the commandment not only have faith in a general sense. We must have faith in a particular person, faith in Jesus Christ. When we seek to better understand what this means, we will understand why we conclude our prayers "in the name of Jesus Christ." When we pray in this way, we implore the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ to intervene on our behalf. If we can focus our faith in Him, that will help us to possess much more power than if we pray without that kind of faith.

When his brothers tied him with ropes and tried to take his life, Nephi pleaded in prayer

Oh Lord, on my faith in you, save me from the hands of my brothers, yes, give me strength to break these bonds that hold me down!

And when I said these words, behold, they were loose the bands of my hands and my feet (1 Nephi 7:17-18).

Alma and had Amulek a similar experience when they were also tied with ropes.

And Alma cried, saying ... Oh Lord, strengthen us in our faith in Christ to have the power to deliver. And they broke the cords with which they were attached (Alma 14:26).

Note that they had no faith in their own strength, trust in the Lord and depended on the strength of Him is faith in Christ that will save us from our own bonds, is to increase our faith in Christ that we will provide additional power in prayers.

All we can strengthen our faith in knowing:

1. God hears and answers our prayers (see D & C 98:2-3, 88:2). I do not think there been a single sincere prayer offered by anyone from the "principle" that has gone unanswered.

2. God lives and loves us, and give us the correct answer to every sincere prayer, no matter what the question (see Moroni 10:4-5).

3. We are all children of God and servants of the Lord.

We can pray as he did Samuel, "Speak, for thy servant heareth" (1 Samuel 3:10).

4. No matter what our age, our position in the church or how long they are members of it. The Lord wants to respond to our sincere requests regardless of these things.

If your faith is weak, you can rely on the testimony of someone else-a parent, teacher or leaders-while seeking to strengthen their own faith.

REPENT SINS OF

Repentance is a fundamental element for the Lord's blessings.

hat history lost (in the previous chapter) illustrates the need for repentance in direct proportion to the problem you are mentioning in their prayers. First, my son was angry at having lost his hat and wallet and it had to repent before he could continue. Second, I hesitated for a moment we could find the lost among the weeds and had plenty to repent of such feeling.

also need to repent in other ways if we hope to be able to receive the blessings of the Lord. The more worthy we are, the better we can turn with confidence to the Lord and receive answers to our prayers.

often not enough simply to be "worthy to enter the temple." Repentance can inspire us to fast with greater awareness, to pray more, to increase our humility, to search the Scriptures, and so on. To the extent that we are willing to change and give up our own sins to the Savior to purify, we can also indirectly influence various events and others. If we sacrifice and are willing to pay the price, and if you agree with the Lord's will, we get what we want in righteousness.

Part of repentance is confession, by which we confess our sins to the detriment of another person. Some serious sins must be confessed to the bishop, but virtually all of them must confess to the Lord. What the Lord said about Martin Harris is applied to each of us:

And now, unless it is humble and confess to me the bad things he has done, and then agreement me that keep my commandments, and who has faith in me, behold, I say you will not receive [the blessings we receive seeks v] (D & C 5:28).

humiliation before the Lord

Doctrine and Covenants the Lord humility directly correlated with the answers to prayer when he said:

Be humble and the Lord your God will hold your hand and will answer your prayers (DyC112: 10).

When we are humble, we recognize that we depend on the Lord and because of that we turn to Him to give us help and guidance in many circumstances, and open our hearts and minds to receive them.

Some people argue that we should not bother the Lord with small things. In a way, that's a spirit of pride, a sense of wanting to do things our own way instead of trying to discover and do God's will.

is very common in today's world hear about being self-sufficient and confident in himself. We hear that we must learn to do things for self-at last, after all, is not it that the Lord has blessed us with good intelligence and the ability to think about things and reasons for our own?

However, this approach separates us from the spirit of humility and under the Lord. Of course the Lord wants us to do everything within our ability, but if we exaggerate our attitude of self begin to believe that we can live life without His help.

Nephi concerned precisely this issue: Are there some things that no I pray? Or should pray about everything? If so, why do not we? Why is that we live each day depending solely on our own capacity?

Nephi lamented about this when he spoke to members of the Church. After showing that the Holy Spirit would show "all things that [were] doing" (2 Nephi 32:5), he said, "And now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts: and I sorry to have to speak regarding this. " In other words, he said: "I hate to talk about prayer, because they should know that this is the way we receive the Holy Spirit's guidance. I am sorry to have to mention, but do it anyway because they need ".

Then he offered this significant statement:

Because if we listen to the Spirit that teaches man to pray you would know that it is necessary to pray for the evil spirit does not teach a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray (2 Nephi 32:8).

The Lord wants us to progress and we strengthens, we are able to do much good, but through it all also want to depend on His Spirit to guide us.

On the other hand, Satan wants us to depend on him. The devil tells us we should not pray. That applies not only to those who are not members of the Church, he tries to influence each of us, saying: "Come on, John, no need to pray for that matter, has no importance. Do not disturb the Lord ". Or maybe: "Mary, you can fix this by yourself." Or: "I know you are very tired tonight, so it is best to leave your prayers for tomorrow morning you do so. Tomorrow you might even spend more time with your prayers. "And the devil whispers, for the evil spirit does not teach a man to pray. At the same time, the Holy Spirit is teaching us to pray.

Now consider the following verse: "Behold, I tell you that you must always pray and not faint." When I pray? Forever! "Nothing must do" - what does that say? Nothing!

Nothing must do before the Lord, without first pray to the Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy action so that your work is for the benefit of your souls (2Nefi32: 9).

That does not mean that we only have to pray before our tasks in the Church. We pray in search of inspiration, guidance and blessings in every aspect of our lives. As Alma taught:

implores God for all your support, yes, let all your deeds in the Lord, and wherever you go, whether in the Lord, let all thy thoughts be directed unto the Lord yea, let the affections of your heart upon the Lord forever.

Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good (Alma 37:36-37).

is much that these verses contain. Lord knows there are things we can do for ourselves if we so choose. (Although at a deeper level, where we belong, we can not do for ourselves, the air we breathe belongs to Him, everything that concerns our life is a gift from God.) But the Lord says: " I know you can do many things for themselves, but whether their actions are for their spiritual welfare must consagrármelas pray and me. "Sometimes, the purpose of such sentences is to consult, communicate what we plan to do and ask you to bless us. But at the same time we ask you to instruct us and lead us: Am direction? Is there anything Lord, that should change what I plan to do? Is this OK? Is there anything else that could be better?

There is also always the danger of emphasizing too much fervor, these ideas about we depend entirely on the Lord. Some people find it too easy to be fanatical, some people think that one must be constantly on their knees praying when in fact we should be putting to work after praying and keep praying in our hearts.

Some people expect the Lord to do everything and reveal things that have not even bothered to study beforehand in his mind (see D & C 9). Some go to extremes and may say with some pride: "I have been praying continuously for the last two nights I slept even" or "Three days ago I am fasting." Or a young man who has just returned from his mission might say, "I've been waiting for five years to have a wife. I have been praying and praying, but the Lord still I sent it. I have not had many dates, but I'm sure that when the Lord will find the will to come to me and we'll know. "

Others are likely to be paralyzed into inactivity, waiting for a response from heaven when in fact the Lord would be requiring them to go ahead and proceed in the best way they can, before you confirm the direction.

Brigham Young once said

If you do not know the will of my Father and what He requires of me in certain circumstances. . ., If I ask you to give me wisdom about every need in life or about my course or my friends, my family, my children or those who preside over and he does not answer, then I do what advised me that the reason the Lord is obliged to accept and honor such action, and will in all respects (Journal of Discourses, 3:205; see Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young, page 50)..

Recognizing that depend on the Lord, increase our humility and enhance our ability to really communicate with him Anyone who is truly humble will do in their power to fulfill their responsibilities, knowing that the answers to your prayers are a mutual effort that requires both the efforts of man as God.

OBEY THE COMMANDMENTS

King Benjamin taught:

I we consider the blessed and happy state of those who keep commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual (Mosiah 2:41).

The more we fulfill the commandments, the greater our capacity to receive the blessings of the Lord, even answers to our prayers.

The Scriptures clearly teach the connection between obedience and getting answers to our prayers. Here are two examples:

If not harden your hearts, ye shall ask in faith believing you will receive, dutifully keeping my commandments, surely you will manifest these things (1 Nephi 15:11).

Whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing to Him (1 John 3:22).

be willing to sacrifice

usually blessings are not free. In exchange for them, the Lord usually requires obedience and sacrifice. We must "sacrifice, pay the price."

Almost every sacrifice takes the form of repentance of sins and abandon bad habits that attract us so much. But when leave, we are greatly blessed, not only reject but also to receive a greater influence of the Spirit in our lives.

The sacrifice of repentance is part of what he referred to the Lord when he said:

offer sacrifice to the Lord thy God in righteousness, that of a heart broken and a contrite spirit (D & C 59:8).

sacrifice can actually increase the power of our prayers, if it holy. Suppose, for example, that you are the mother or father of a son who is moving away from the path of righteousness. I think you could pray much for him to return. Could do a lot fast for him to return home. You might regret enough of their own sins so that through his sacrifice that the Lord would intervene more in the youth's life and save him. It would not be that you were paying for their own sins, Jesus has already done for you. But through his will, through slaughter, you achieved blessings that might not otherwise receive. (Of course, these things still depend on the will of others, our prayers can not interfere with the agency of those for whom we pray. But the sacrifice and fervent prayer can be helpful. There is much we can accomplish with such sentences, even when completely fail to bring our loved ones back home. And such sentences, we are lost).

One must also remember to pray always subject to the will of the Lord in all things. Certainly the Lord will always take place. We consider all these essential steps to improve our prayers, elements over which we exercise some control, but we must always remember that, despite our wishes and our best efforts to do what we appropriate, the Lord's will ultimately be the determining factor.

INCREASE THE DESIRE

The Lord has said it will give us all according to our desires (See, for example, Enos 1:12, Alma 9 : 20, 18:35, 29:5, 41:3-5, D & C 11:17). In preparing our minds and our hearts to pray, we can increase our desire to speak to the Lord more diligently seek our desires line up with God and desire more fervently His answers.

When Nephite disciples prayed in Jesus' presence, "not multiply many words, because it was what they should pray, and full of yearning" (3 Nephi 19:24).

And the Lord has promised today:

Here, according to your wishes, yes, according to your faith will be done (D & C 11 : 17).

These promises can be for each one of us, if we try.

Part of being able to increase our desires is to be sincere to procure them. Earlier we mentioned the promise the Lord gave to Martin Harris:

If he bows to me, and humbles himself with fervent prayer and faith, with sincerity of heart, then you concede that you want to look at things see (D & C 5:24).

Moroni also stressed the need to be sincere in our prayers when he said:

[Ask] God ... if these things are true, and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, He will manifest the truth of them (Moroni 10:4).

ELIMINATE THE HEART OF ANGER AND CONTAINMENT

When my son wanted us to help him find his hat and wallet, I knew we could not help through prayer because I was so exasperated. You can not get answers to your prayers when you feel anger in his heart. But after kneeling humbly and let the Lord deliver him from his frustration, he was ready for us to try to help you get the answer he craved.

Of course, this applies not only in cases of anger but also in every negative emotion, lust, jealousy, greed, contention, revenge, resentment, doubt, etc..

MIND CONTROL

Jacob was referring to the blessing that comes to discipline the mind in prayer

I , Jacob, I want to warn you who are pure of heart. Trust in God with minds firm, and pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions, and advocate for your cause, and that justice will be upon those who seek your destruction (Jacob 3:1).

The Lord counseled Oliver Cowdery saying that would be more successful in receiving the inspiration needed to translate the Book of Mormon if you studied first in his mind (see DyC9: 8). Concentrating the mind on a particular problem helps us prepare to receive the Lord's inspiration.

Santiago, in the New Testament, add your testimony about how important it is to focus mentally when it comes to receiving answers to our prayers:

And if any of you lack wisdom, ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and will be given.

him ask in faith, nothing wavering, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by wind and tossed back and forth.

let not he shall, to receive anything from the Lord.

The double minded man is unstable in all his ways (James 1:5-8)

Focus and concentrate his mind on his prayers and blessings that seeks to receive is a significant exercise of his discretion that will help you be worthy of the Lord's blessings. This concentration is part of faith and faith is essential to receiving answers to prayers.

Preparing our hearts and minds to receive answers from the Lord blesses us in two important ways:

First, it helps to qualify for the blessings we seek. The Lord honors us when we try to be fair, both externally and internally, and want to answer our prayers and help in our problems.

Second, to turn our minds and hearts to the Lord, we will be able to receive the blessings granted to us. The Lord, through Joseph Smith, said:

speak your mind and your heart through the Holy Spirit has come upon you and dwell in your heart.

Now, behold, it is the spirit of revelation (D & C 8:2-3).

Limhi King said his people would receive the blessings of the Lord asking if it "[become] the Lord with full purpose of heart, and [putting his] confidence in him and [he served ] with all the diligence of the soul "(Mosiah 7:33).

And so it has to be with us all. If we expect answers to our prayers, as did my dear son when we lost the blender, we must first prepare our hearts and our minds.

GETTING ANSWERS FAST

Before concluding this chapter, I answer a question that has made me often. Is there something that determines how quickly the Lord answered?

Behind this question is seen observing the Lord seems to immediately answer the prayers of some, while others must be patient for a long time.

I believe that the Doctrine and Covenants 101 gives us a good answer to this Question:

were slow to hearken to the voice of the Lord your God, therefore, the Lord your God is slow to hear their prayers and answer them in the day of their trouble.

In the days of peace they esteemed lightly my counsel, but on the day of their trouble of necessity they feel to me (D & C 101:7-8).

These verses contain a lament of the Lord, a lament that most of us do not seriously worry about anything until we are in a serious emergency. And then I beg the Lord to help us.

And in essence, He says, "Where were they when things were going well and why not come unto me?"

I believe that when we are slow to hear the voice of the Lord, He is so slow to hear our prayers and answer us on the day of our difficulties.

Of course, even in recent days have been slow to turn to God, we repent. As the Lord is saying:

Assuredly, I say, notwithstanding their sins, my bowels are filled with compassion for them (D & C 101:9).

I think if you want to increase the speed with which the Lord would answer, you need to increase the speed with which respond to the voice of the Spirit.

A second requirement: We can not answer reluctantly. "The Lord requires the heart and a willing mind" requires not only be "obedient", but also we are "willing" (D & C 64:34). He also requires us to accept Gifts with gratitude, even if such gifts appear to be probations:

But in everything God sends you ask, who gives li-liberal, and what the Spirit testifies unto you even so I would that do in all holiness of heart, walking uprightly before me, considering the end of your salvation, doing all things with prayer and thanksgiving (D & C 46:7).

Finally, if we want the Lord to respond quickly, we must be humble. Section 112 of the Doctrine and Covenants contains these beautiful words: "Be humble and the Lord thy God I hold your hand and will answer your prayers "(DyC112: 10). What a beautiful gem! If you are humble, He will hold your hand to show what a sacrifice is necessary and then I will answer your prayers.

But it is necessary that in all this remember that although we quickly answer will not always be "yes." According to His wisdom and His will, could answer "no" or "maybe later" .

In fact, then what usually determines our ability to receive immediate response is ourselves, our own heart and mind. If our hearts and our minds are pure, if we return to the Lord and try to apply the principles presented in this chapter, learn how to enhance our ability to get answers more quickly and clearly.

Naruto Ninja Council Sprites

THE ARMY OF THE LORD President Thomas S. Monson

A few twenty-four, I was sitting in the choir section of the Assembly Hall,
building located in the southwest corner of Temple Square. Took place a stake conference, and the elders
Joseph Fielding Smith and Alma Sonne had assigned to reorganize the office. The Priesthood
and bishoprics were charged with presenting the music they served as bishops
sang along to our youth. After singing the first number, Elder Smith
approached the pulpit and announced the names of the members of the new presidency. I suppose the others had heard
appeals, but not me. After reading my name, Brother Smith said: "If the
Brother Monson is willing to respond to this call, we are happy to lead us now
the word." When viewed from the pulpit that sea of \u200b\u200bfaces, I remembered the song we'd just sing
and entitled: "Have courage, my son, to say no." But I chose the theme of my acceptance speech:
"Have courage, my son, to say yes."
There is a popular song whose lyrics describe to you young people:
Look!
royal army and come to fight,
with weapons and flags
to conquer evil.
Their ranks are filled with men
value, following his
Caudillo and sing with vigor:
A Victory, victory,
for saving us!
A Victory, victory,
by King Jesus Christ!
(Hymns, 248.)
The priesthood is a powerful army of justice, a real army. We run a Prophet of God and our commander in chief
is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The marching orders we receive are clear and concise
. Matthew describes our mission with these words of the Master:
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit
;
" teaching to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway,
until the end of the world "(Matthew 28:19-20).
Did you hear the divine command first disciples? Marcos tells us: "And they went forth and preached everywhere
, helping the Lord" (Mark 16:20).
's mandate to preach is not invalidated, by contrast, has re-emphasized in him.
currently have thousands of missionaries who have answered the call, there are thousands more who will respond, are constantly creating new missions
. What time is it exciting and motivating!
You who possess the Aaronic and you honor, have been reserved for this special period of history
. The harvest is truly great. Let us not be misunderstood in this regard: the opportunity to
your life is within your reach. I hope the blessings of eternity. How can better respond to the call
? Let me suggest that you cultivate the three virtues:
1. The desire to serve.
2. The patience to prepare.
3. The willingness to work.
doing so, always will form part of the royal army of the Lord. Consider separately each
these three virtues.
First, the desire to serve. Recall the requirement of the Lord in his statement: "Behold, the Lord requires
heart and a willing mind" (D & C 64:34).
contemporary
A minister said: "While the desire to serve is not greater than the obligation,
men fight as conscripts forced and not as patriots who follow his flag. The duty is fulfilled only when the dignity
you do, if I could, willingly goes the extra mile. "
Do not you think appropriate to yourselves lest you be who you must call to missionary work? Is not
also prudent than those who do your parents? Instead, you are called by God, by prophecy and revelation
, and your appeal is signed by the President of the Church.
For many years I was privileged to serve with President Spencer W. Kimball, when he was president of the Executive Committee
Mission of the Church. Those unforgettable meetings where the destination is assigned
missionaries were full of inspiration and, from time to time, enlivened by touches of humor.
remember very well the form of recommendation for a future mission, in which the bishop had written
following: "This young man is very close to his mother. She asked whether it would be possible to send him to a nearby mission
home, so he could visit a few times and talk on the phone every week. "
read these words aloud and is awaiting that President Kimball appointed mission to which
send this young man. I felt a spark of mischief in his eyes as he said with a sweet smile, without adding any comment
"Asignémoslo to Mission-South Africa Johannesburg ".
appeals cases were angels are too numerous to mention
but I know without a doubt that divine inspiration involved in these assignments sacred. We all recognize the truth
so simply declared in the Doctrine and Covenants: "If ye have desires to serve God ye are called to work"
(D & C 4:3).
Second, the patience to prepare. Preparation for the mission is not something that can be improvised, but
that started earlier than you remember. Each class of Sunday School, Primary, the seminar, each
assignment you had in the priesthood, had a broader application than the apparent. Quiet and almost imperceptibly has
shaped a life, has begun a career, have formed a man. A poet
said
Who for the Master's plan a
motivates young man during the morning determined.
That commitment involves the calling of a quorum adviser guys! Advisors, do you think really
the opportunity you have? "You pray? Do you make it? Do you prepare your young?
When I was fifteen, I was called to preside over a quorum of teachers. Our advisor was interested in
us, and we knew it. One day he said:
-Tom, to you like raising pigeons, right?
"Yes," I replied enthusiastically.
Then I asked
- Would you like that gives you a couple of pigeons of pure race?
- Yeah, right! "I answer this time, since I had were of the ordinary caught on the roof of
school. He told me to go home the next afternoon.
That was one of the longest days of my life. When he got the job, an hour ago and I was waiting for him
. I took the pigeon that was in a small shed at the back of his land. While
watched the doves, who were the most beautiful I had seen, he said:
-Pick any male, and give you a female that is different from all the pigeons in the world.
After I made my selection, I put in the hands of a tiny female, I looked and asked him was what made her
different from the others. He replied: "If
examine it, you'll see that has only one eye.
was true, was missing an eye, he had lost in a skirmish with a cat. Then my counselor advised me
"Take them to your loft, let him be imprisoned for ten days and then drop them to see if they have
accustomed to the place and stay there.
I followed your instructions. When I released, the male strutted about on the roof of the loft, then went to
eat, but the female disappeared in an instant. I immediately called the counselor to ask if the pigeon
had returned to his loft.
"Come," he answered, we'll be looking.
As we were walking from the house to the loft, the adviser said:
"Tom, you are the president of the teachers quorum. Of course, I already knew that, then added:
- What will you do to turn to Bob?
"I bring to the meeting of a quorum this week," he said.
He then reached out to a nest and gave me the dove-eyed.
-Keep it locked for a few days, "he said and try again.
I did so, and once more the bird disappeared. The story was repeated.
"Come, and see if he returned here.
While we were for the flock I made this comment:
"Congratulations for having got that Bob was a priesthood meeting. And now, what will you and enable him to
Bill?
"I will take with us to the next meeting," I replied.
This experience was repeated again and again. I was already a man when I came to realize that my advisor
certainly had given me a special pigeon: the only one of all the loft that he knew would
each time I let go. It was his inspired way to make sure you have every two weeks, the ideal interview
priesthood with the teachers quorum president. I owe much to that dove-eyed, and much more
owe quorum adviser that had the patience to help prepare for the opportunities that I
submitted later.
Third, the willingness to work. Missionary work is difficult, will test your energies, will take you to
limit of your ability, you will require your best effort and often you do it again and again.
Remember that no "race to the swift nor the battle to the strong" (Ecclesiastes 9:11), but
which endures to the end. Take the determination to do the following:
persevere in your duty to that part of you is;
to start with are many, but few finish the task.
Praise and honors, position and power,
for remaining will be provided.
Persevere in your efforts to be part of you;
strive for it, sweat and try to smile,
as for the effort, smile and sweat
finally get the victory and honor.
During the latter part of World War I turned eighteen and was ordained Elder
a week before leaving for active duty in the Navy. A member of the bishopric in my neighborhood went to the station to say goodbye
, and a moment before leaving the train I put in my hand a little book entitled The Handbook of
missionary. Seeing the title I laughed and said,
"But I'm not going on a mission.
"Take him anyway," he answered, can help.
And it was.
The basic training period, our company commander instructed us regarding
best way to put the clothes in our bags of sailors, among other things, we recommended that if
had a hard object that was and rectangular in shape, we put it in the bottom of the bag for clothes
have a firmer basis. I suddenly remembered that he had the rectangular object right: my missionary manual.
That was the first service that I provided, and there remained twelve weeks.
The night before our departure in the Christmas holidays, our thoughts were, as always,
in the family, a great silence reigned in the barracks. Suddenly I heard my colleague the next bunk-a Mormon boy
-breathed moans of pain.
- What is it? I asked.
"I'm sick," he replied, very sick.
advised him to go to the clinic at the base, but he said that if he did not let him go
home for Christmas.
With the passing of the hours her moans became more severe until a time when,
desperate, whispered:
-Monson, Monson, are not you Elder?
I said yes, after which I asked: - Give me a blessing!
I suddenly realized that he had never given a blessing of health, had not received any, nor
seen anyone give it to someone else. Then pray to God pleading for help, and received the answer: "Seek
at the bottom of the bag of clothes." It was two o'clock in the morning emptied on the floor when the contents of the bag
, took up the bedside lamp that hard, rectangular object that was underneath it all, the missionary
manual, and read all about how to bless the sick. Then, with about sixty sailors
around us watching us with curiosity, I proceeded to give the blessing. Before the end of
keep my things, my partner was sleeping. The next morning, he turned to me and said:
-Monson, I'm so glad you own the priesthood! Future
missionaries, our Heavenly Father bless you with the desire to serve, the patience to prepare and
the will to work, so that both you and all who make up this royal army of the Lord ye
deserve their promise
"I will go before your face. I'll be on your right hand and your left, and my Spirit shall be in your heart and
my angels around you, to bear "(D & C 84:88).

Church Constitution Sample

"... No more Bible." (Part 2) by Hugh Nibley *

Aggiornamento: Churches losing ground.

Aggiomamento is a favorite word of Pope Paul VI can be interpreted as "renewal." A new conception of the Church, and especially their spiritual gifts, running hand in hand with a new concept of scripture, which in turn opens wide the doors to a whole new approach with regard to Mormonism and the Book of Mormon. What that has enabled such strange circumstances? Has been the discovery of ancient records, forgotten by men for a long time, but coming out to light "from [the miraculous discovery made in the hill] Cumorah" in recent years and especially in our own generation to make the story of Cumorah is considered less and less fantastic and also increasingly likely to Over the years and the accumulation of evidence. The irresistible force of ancient voices speaking again from the dust from the Hill Cumorah, and especially from Qumran, is currently leading the entire Christian world through strange patterns. "Nobody can deny," writes a Methodist scholar with strong Catholic tendencies, "that something extraordinary is happening in the formerly 'immutable' Catholic Church Romana. "Nothing can give more indication that it is neither more nor less than a totally radical renewal of doctrines and ordinances. Food and disclosure, terms neglected for decades, have become the main slogans of a" renewed "Christianity, both Catholic and Protestant.

What could be responsible for such amazing revolution? Two scholars, one Protestant and one Catholic, co-authored a new book on Liturgical Movement, have shown that the initial impetus and continuous pressure behind this movement was the progressive discovery of unsuspected old documents make their way to new and strange perspectives of an early church more completely and radically different than conventional Christianity have imagined.

RP Marshall, Protestant minister, his writing begins by noting that Protestants have been guilty of a systematic rejection of rites and ordinances, in effect, "only in recent years the ministry of worship has begun to be seriously considered by Protestants as the promising field of study. " Moreover, the Catholic writer MJ Taylor said that the rites of the Church have long become quite useless for the people: "Men seem unable to respect the simplicity of his original nature. They want to add what tradition has given, "such additions are" made to offer the feel of a show ... In the liturgy which celebrated bishops and popes, the songs went on to become almost symphonic ... The people, unable to participate in the music stand established for these rites, reluctantly gave up her title role in decline for the choir. " That is, both Catholic and Protestant authorities allowed open and frankly, that their churches today are very far from possessing and officiate the original rites of the Church, the return of which the so-called liturgical movement has self-imposed as a primary goal through "a practical effort .. . to renew the lives of all the faithful here and now through the exercise of a revitalized liturgy. " And this is precisely where the voices that speak from the dust to be felt, since the movement started from these liturgical and patristic studies that revealed the true nature of the liturgy in the earliest documents available.

Dom Gueranger (1805-1875) of the monastery of Solesmes began the movement, but although he "thought it was necessary to return to the past ... did not have the historical documents" needed to take, retrospectively speaking, far enough. Therefore, "returned renewal, chronologically speaking, to the time when the Roman liturgy was not the best in itself."

The most important progress was achieved on the subject in Germany at the monastery of Maria Laach, where they are "made an unquantifiable contribution the liturgical movement in relation to liturgical studies "and" ... produced ample justification for reform .... "In short, the coming forth of old documents or historical studies (doctrinal, liturgical and pastoral) left absolutely clear that our current liturgy was not the most appropriate, "no one would have suspected such documents even on the need to" return to the old ways, ... a return to tradition to compensate for the shortcomings of the present. "One need similar is currently perceived by many Protestants and also for them, "the liturgical movement has sought the help of history and theology in the study of the rites ... Catholic and Protestants, "Marshall concludes that" to retrieve what has been lost and useless waste valuable time throwing accusations insulting the other "

As we all know, the world was extremely offended by the assertion expressed by the Latter-day Saints in the sense that Christians had lost many of the ancient rites and ordinances and was shocked and entertained with your concern about the rites and ordinances considered essential for salvation.

the Christian world now admits heavy losses and aims to fill the gap we look back to the writings for so long forgotten, of which the most ancient and important has literally emerged from the dust in our own time. This amazing things can turn shined with the declarations, so characteristically frank and profound, of Pope Paul VI. "Now everything is new, surprising, changed," he writes in relation to the liturgy, "even the ringing of bells in Sanctus has been shelved." All new and changed! It is indeed surprising; but there is a reason for that: "We are concerned," the pope wrote in his first encyclical, "by restoring to the Church that ideal of perfection and beauty to match your original image ... [and we] desire to renew the structure of the Church altogether. "

When Mormons have spoken about a restoration of the gospel, Christian sectarianism immediately took the offensive and challenged the act in a threatening tone "restoration? What ever lost something? " But we now need is neither more nor less than the Pope of Rome, who stated that must be a restoration involving "the structure of the entire Church!" Paul VI speaks of "the great spiritual renewal that the Second Vatican Council hopes to promote" and emphatically and vigorously defend "the heroic struggle waged and impatiently towards renewal. The battle for a correct those errors made by its members." The Church today ... is self-examination and reformulating the things that Christ, its founder, established and bequeathed to us about it ... The Church must now define its nature ... In this sense, the Church completed doctrinal work that projected the First Vatican Council enunciated. "

For anyone familiar with Catholic controversy years ago about the strong emphasis placed on large, monolithic, unchanging, universal and victorious Church, all this seems, indeed, new , surprise and changed. Is not it a bit late to try to determine what really belongs to the Church? There must be some good reason for such drastic and abrupt change of viewpoint and the reason for this not to be found far away, "new discoveries of ancient documents are confronting the world with an image of the early Church which is totally different from all previously planned but an image that the Christian world this must somehow be adjusted to fit. That's not the whole story, but as far as the liturgical movement in general is concerned, it is undoubtedly the first impulse.

Qumran's voice seems to echo in the terms that both the current pope (1967) as the Ecumenical Council, have chosen to designate the Church: "The People of God," "The New Israel" evoke the image of Israel in the desert, the small group of faithful saints who "often looked like a small flock. "" The Church has turned the corner, "writes the editor of the weekly Catholic World," currently belong to a church that has defined itself as the People of God ... We live in a time of renewed attention to charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit conferred on any person baptized with the 'right and duty' to use those gifts to build up the body of Christ. "

Eduard Meyer said not long ago that one of the unique aspects of Mormonism, and completely absent from all other religions, was the idea of \u200b\u200ba sequel of the charismatic gifts as a common heritage of all members. The "right and duty" in our quote refers to a new policy established Catholic which calls for "every member is a missionary:" We are pleased to announce that the analysis [of the draft council] constantly demand that the whole Church is missionary and also that every faithful member, as far as possible, become a missionary in spirit and in deeds. "

currently much talk, both in Catholic publications as Protestant, of revelation and inspiration - Do we need to remind the reader that at first believed that continuing revelation was the most harmful and dangerous of Mormonism? Latourelle father mentioned that the Second Vatican Council is the first time in history, a Church council that methodically considered the basics of revelation, tradition and inspiration. And now we are told that "when the Roman Pontiff or the body of Archbishop together define a proposition, they do so in communion with the revelation," so that "everything is related and complies with this principle of revelation." Inevitably, we are told, is co-extensive with the deposit of divine revelation, "ie, the words of the Bible "exposed with the help of the Holy Spirit." The cornerstone of ecclesiastical authority is now the revelation and the Holy Spirit. But it was not always so. What will be the fate of the scholastic philosophy, the largest and most remarkable achievement of the Catholic Church, which until now had been officially designated as the proper key for disclosure, ie, for correct exposure of the scriptures? The revelation itself is now considered something more than the word of God recorded in the Bible, official statements must now somehow be considered as "related to the disclosure." Currently the scholarship is outdated and indirectly the revelation is taking place cautiously. Even the pope said his predecessor Pius XII, open, but carefully, like a prophet, one who spoke "in a solemn tone as a prophet of God and father of the World."

The synergistic role played by new discoveries documentary that tip the scales in favor of change is evident so strange considering a number of papal statements: "The Pope acknowledged that exploration, methodologies , excavations, documents, inscriptions, papyri, manuscripts and all sorts of evidence of nature recently, have completely changed the problems of biblical exegesis in the last fifty years "and struggle for a comprehensive search of the original texts as well as the development of a new scientific method of Catholic exegesis. Noting that" even as lustres Bible commentators like St. Jerome often had relatively little success in explaining the doctrinal issues more difficult "writing, the Pope proposes some" general guidelines for the exegete , "requiring" appropriate use of new techniques exegetical particularly those who are inclined to consider the historical method as a whole ... counting on the help of textual criticism, literary criticism and linguistic knowledge, "as if this were not enough, the pope emphasized the importance of" providing ears to the product of recent research findings "and allow" the Catholic exegete can and should be free to exercise their own insight and intelligence. Only in this way each person ... contribute substantially to the continued progress of sacred doctrine. "

Although this apparent freedom of investigation is currently under the strict supervision of the "living magisterium of the Church and" subject to the authority and jurisdiction of the Ordinary, "are the scholars and their" excavations, texts, inscriptions, "and so on., who provide the information necessary to decide which teachings and rites of the Church should be considered authentic.

Amazingly analyze how many of the changes taking place in the doctrines and ordinances Catholic and Protestant point in the direction of the same things that always accumulated in the past persecution and mockery on the head of every Latter Days. This can be illustrated clearly by looking at the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church issued by the Second Vatican Council on November 25, 1965. The first section is entitled "The plan of the Father" and speaks of the Gospel in terms of a plan seremonta the pre-existence. The second chapter is entitled "The People of God" and in the section entitled "A Chosen People" confronts us with this new image of the Church, so strikingly different from what had been diligently cultivated since the time of the Fathers the fourth century AD as we show "the new Israel traveling through the world, ... to move forward through trials and temptations."

The next section is entitled "A People of Priests," and teaches that "the common priesthood of the faithful" is "in a particular and distinctive way participation in the one priesthood of Christ. " The next announced that through the sacraments (ordinances) all must be "reborn as children of God." Next we read that "the Holy People of God and shares the prophetic mission in Christ to engage as living witnesses to Him "This leads (in the next section) to the gifts of the spirit, which should be widely enjoyed in the Church. The section calls attention to the effect that all should be missionaries.

Chapter VII holds a title that would have shocked any historian of the Church some years ago, when the Church and eschatology were diametrically opposed elements: "the eschatological character of the Church Traveling and Meeting with the Church in heaven. "were the type of questions that Augustine and his contemporaries definitively put a stop, for he and his scholastic successors (who hardly receive any notice of the new order of things), the Church on earth was the same church, eschatological and heavenly. But now is a different story as we rushed to Qumran to watch a small group of "saints," despised and rejected by the world, living in the expectation of the coming of the Lord at the end of time: "The final day of the world has come between us, "this chapter begins by informing that" even the appearance of a sky and new earth where justice will reign, the Church roaming ... will wear the ephemeral appearance characteristic of this world. "

So the universal Church, strong and successful, established once and for all to stay (according to the Vatican statement above) "firm and unshakable until the end of the world," acquired "the fleeting appearance characteristic of this world!" Moreover, as support for each and every one of his dramatic claims, "the Catholicism of the Church always hopelessly inadequate."

The Christian world can not be completely ignorant of who is moving in the direction of things to be mocked and ridiculed when the voices spoke for the first time since Cumorah. Full indication of this is the observation made by one of the main and most important Catholic authorities on the subject of Dead Sea Scrolls one of the earliest and best books I have never written on the subject, in the sense that the correct title granted to the community of Qumran should be Latter-Day Saints, but that the title could not used because, unfortunately, had been preceded by "Christian sect."

While some Catholics currently support the changes to be made and done in the past in rituals, customs and administration of the Church, some others have tried for pointing to this writer that the really important part of the estate, ie the doctrine of the Church, has remained unchanged, preserved in the unchanging formulas of creeds. But this is a misunderstanding. The great councils of the Church, including all previous ecumenical councils, were called mostly to discuss and decide on matters of doctrine, but the words of the creeds have remained unchanged, the interpretation of those words has been the subject of an eternal controversy still continues. Understandably, the Catholic clergy in areas where it can be done, assume the position of Bousset in the sense that the Church has never changed its basic doctrines, but as Owen Chadwick has shown, the largest and most far-reaching changes in the Church, both ancient and modern times have been doctrinal in nature.
