Boyd has a knack for putting his characters in extreme situations. Today all the gadgets and everyday objects make us concatenation of zeros and ones without which we cease to exist. The manipulation of the same in this case serves to change the course of events and information. Like Dickens, the author uses the city of London, and more specifically the Thames, as a location where they move their characters.

short, without being as complete as "The Adventures ...", is an entertaining book and quick read.
